Maddie Fielder-Shaw (ESMA Chairperson)
Maddie graduated from Royal Agricultural University in 2019 with a degree in Equine Science and Business Management. She completed an ITEC Level 3 Human Sports Massage qualification before continuing her training with ESMA in 2020 and gaining her Equine Sports Massage qualification. Her main passion is the use of massage on horse and rider to achieve better performance and a happier, healthier partnership. Maddie runs her own business MOC Sport Therapy around Wiltshire, Hampshire and Surrey. Maddie is responsible for the ESMA social media pages keeping members and the general public up to date with useful information and upcoming events.

Kirsty Davis (Co-Opted)
Kirsty has been both a human and equine sports massage therapist for over 25 years. She has bred, broken and schooled her own and others horses working in all disciplines, whilst receiving instruction from many great trainers. Kirsty has lectured for many years, specialising in theoretical and practical equitation based on the physiology of the horse. Her breadth of knowledge similar to all ESMA members, helps to understand client’s and owner’s needs.

Suzanne Crockford (Vice Chair/Website)

Suzanne completed BHS Stage 1& 2 at agricultural college then later trained as a human sports massage therapist qualifying with a BTEC level 5 in Clinical Sport & Remedial Massage. Watching hundreds of horses perform intricate dressage tests ignited her passion for movement and performance so she completed the Equine Massage Diploma run by Mary Bromiley. Suzanne runs her own business Crockford Massage Therapy across Hampshire and Berkshire helping athletes, riders and horses improve their health performance. Suzanne is Vice Chair of ESMA and manages external website content.
Helen Tompkins (Training Provider - Co-Opted)
Helen has been involved with Equine Sports Massage training since 2008; initially assisting the renowned Mary Bromiley MBE delivering the ITEC Diploma in Equine Sports Massage and has taken forward Mary’s legacy in continuing to train the therapists of the future by delivering several equine sports massage and veterinary physiotherapy training programmes. She is a member of the AHPR Board and ESMA committee member. Helen runs a busy full time clinical veterinary physiotherapy practice in Devon working on a wide variety of client horses from World Class competitors – in various disciplines – to happy hackers.

Iain Thompson (ESMA Mentor - Co-Opted)
Iain has been an Equine sports massage therapist since early 2008 and is now privileged to work with horses in all disciplines but mainly national and international showjumping horses. Before becoming a therapist he worked at two thoroughbred studs handling stallions, at the Royal Dick Veterinary Hospital, Hunt service, National hunt racing and top level competition yards. Iain has spent the last 25 years breeding, producing and competing showjumping horses from his home in the North Cotswolds. Iain holds a Bioveterinary Science degree and the ITEC human and equine sports massage qualifications. He has been on the ESMA committee for some years and now has an interest in supporting graduates into their new careers.

Kirree-Ann Kelly (Members Secretary)

Kirree-Ann is a Human and Equine Soft Tissue Specialist based predominately in the Isle of Man working under the Kinetic Human and Equine Sports Therapy banner. Kirree-Ann studied at Hartpury gaining a BSc (Hons) Equine Sports Science and MA Sports Business Management. Kirree-Ann is also qualified in Animal Fascial Manipulation (STECCO) and Low Level Laser Therapy. She is currently in her final year of training with the Society of Master Saddlers to become a Qualified Saddle Fitter.
Caroline Rawnsley (Company Secretary/Governance and Standards)

Caroline has been a member of the Equine Sports Massage Association since she qualified from Mary Bromiley’s ITEC course in 2004. A lifelong equestrian, she works with a wide variety of equines (and their owners), from high level dressage and event horses to retired ponies with the aim of restoring optimum function and maximising quality of life. Caroline is committed to continuous learning and holds a Level 7 Postgraduate Certificate in Equestrian Performance and Rehabilitation alongside her massage qualifications.
Mary Marshall (Committee Member)
Mary is a Human and Equine Sports Massage Therapist. She completed her human Sports Massage with VTCT in 2019 and then went on to complete Helen Tompkins Open Awards Level 3 Equine Sports Massage course in 2020. Since qualifying she works part time as Liberty Sports Massage working with riders, horses and anyone with muscle and movement issues. Mary was recently co-opted onto the Committee and assists by writing reports for the ESMA Newsletters on the CPD events held throughout the year.

Grace Kearsey – Committee Member
While teaching horse riding for years, Grace developed a strong passion for rider posture and biomechanics. This inspired her to ask the question, “How else can I help?” In 2019, Grace qualified in Human Sports Massage with Cotswold Academy and in Equine Sports Massage with Animal Therapy Solutions, becoming an ESMA member.
Since then, she has completed a variety of CPD courses, including Level 5 Equine Biomechanics, helped manage a large livery yard and Riding school, and taught riders of all levels. Now, through GK Sports Massage, Grace works with both horses and riders of all abilities, using sports massage and education to improve performance.

Kimberley Cooper – Treasurer

Kim is a human and equine sports massage therapist, qualifying in ITEC level 3 human massage in 2018, and joined the Animal Therapy Solutions level 3 equine sports massage qualifying in 2022, and has recent upgraded to level 4. Prior to this she studied equine management, gaining a foundation degree in equine science and then completed an honors degree in rural business management.
Kim’s passion for massage stemmed from a desire to give back to horses for all they give to us, supporting their wellbeing, improving their performance and supporting both horse and rider. Kim has now set up her own business K C Equine Sports Massage based in Devon and enjoys hunting and riding across Dartmoor. Kim is excited to be taking on the role of treasurer!
Tamzin Wilcox - Committee Member
Tamzin has a life long passion for horses and has studied, owned her own and worked in the Equine Sector in a variety of roles spanning the last 20 years. Tamzin started her studies with an Equine and Business Diploma at Duchy College, as well as her BHS Stages 1 & 2, then moved to Wiltshire and completed a BSc (Hons) Equine Management (Business) at the Royal Agricultural College (now University) all while working as a Freelance Groom across a multitude of disciplines, from PTP to Dressage. Tamzin has also worked extensively in the retail sector of the Equine/Countryside industry working in customer relations, management and online marketing.
After a short break from horses and career to have children Tamzin decided to expand her current knowledge and skill set in the equine industry and in 23/24 studied Level 3 Body Massage with The College of Classical Massage in Bath and then joined the 24/25 cohort for the Level 4 Equine Sports Massage course. Tamzin now practices on both human and horses on a mobile basis from her base in Corsham, Wiltshire.
Tamzin has a particular love of National Hunt Racing and Eventing, with a passion for slow, correct foundations from an anatomical perspective across all disciplines. She is excited for this next chapter and for sharing her knowledge in the quest to improve the management and understanding of our horses across all disciplines at every level.
Sarah Matthews – Committee Member
Sarah Matthews qualified with ITEC in Equine Sports Massage in 2011, training with renowned equine therapist Mary Bromiley. She has worked as a self-employed practitioner, supporting horse welfare, comfort, and performance through skilled hands-on sports massage.
Her work focuses on improving horses’ musculoskeletal health, aiding recovery and helping them move more freely and comfortably in their work. In 2024, Sarah furthered her professional development by qualifying at Level 4 under OFQUAL with Helen Tompkins, strengthening her clinical knowledge and practical expertise.
Alongside her equine work, Sarah is also qualified to treat people and offers human massage therapy from her purpose-built treatment cabin at home.
Sarah serves on the committee of the Equine Sports Massage Association, where they promote high professional standards, education, and the continued development of the equine sports massage profession.
